Llewellyn Iron Works was founded by Welshman Reese Llewellyn and his brothers, David and William, in Los Angeles in 1886 and incorporated in 1894.
Llewellyn thrived in its early years, garnering large contracts to produce steel for dozens of major new buildings, including the downtown L.A. Biltmore Hotel on Pershing Square and several bank buildings in the Spring Street financial district.  Llewellyn Iron Works also manufactured many of the early iron street lamps with glass globes (electroliers) for the city of Los Angeles.
